Speedwatch

Our lead Speedwatch volunteer, Robin Gilbert tells us what it is all about:

"The mortal tentacles of speeding motorists extend to the length and the breadth of the country. On any stretch of road, at any time of day. Alas, not even our beloved and tranquil Alderton is spared this insidious shadowy spectre, looming large as it does over our children, ourselves, our pets, livestock and wildlife.

On the thin line between speeding and lawfulness lies the speedwatch team. Members of the local community willing to do their part to make the village streets calmer and safer. Not part of the police, they strive to defend the village streets, by giving up their time and reminding drivers that there is a good reason for the speed limits. They are few and their time is finite, so this article is a plea for more upstanding members of the community – neighbours, parents, grandparents – to help us, and to take a stand against those who drive with such disregard for our village peace.

Giving up only an hour or two of your time could make the difference to someone else’s lifetime. The training is easy, and the role is not arduous. If you can help, please contact the Clerk to the parish council".
